Bio:

Identifying as a Jill-of-all-trades, Azra Rajah (she / her) is a dynamic and ambitious young academic with experience developed across private and public South African higher education institutions.. She is currently an Associate Lecturer in Department of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, and Junior Researcher in the Chair for Youth Unemployment, Employability and Empowerment. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Applied Language Studies at Nelson Mandela University with the foci exploring how black women in South African and American hip hop culture subvert the androcentric discourses of black women in hip hop culture. She holds A BA in English Literature and Applied Language Studies from Nelson Mandela University (2020) and  BA Honours in Applied Language Studies (cum laude) from Nelson Mandela University (2021). Her experience spans particular involvement in: tutoring, lecturing, project coordination, research assistance, publishing, and advising the Nelson Mandela University chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society. Her research interests include Critical Discourse Analysis, Media Studies, Women and Gender Studies, Hip Hop Culture,  Language and Ideology
