Overview

The isiXhosa to English Translation SLP is intended for delegates with a thorough linguistic and cultural knowledge of both isiXhosa and English. The course will equip the delegate with some of the skills necessary to understand the dynamics of both languages and introduce them to the principles of translation and interpretation. Scenarios will be created where delegates will be taught how to distinguish between translation and interpretation, how to apply the basics of language structures and principles in isiXhosa and English to translation and interpretation appropriately.

 

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

·                understand the differences and similarities between translation and interpretation

·                understand the different methods of interpretation

·                pay particular attention to the style, accuracy and significance of the message

·                know their limitations in offering their service as interpreter and/or translator

·                comfortably use the appropriate technology to enhance your role 

 

Assessment

The assessment will consist of both written exercises and verbal communication.
